Happy February 29th! It comes just once every four years to keep the calendar year aligned with the astronomical year, since an astronomical year is actually 365.242 days long. Every year that is exactly divisible by four is a leap year, except for years that are exactly divisible by 100, except these centurial years are leap years if they are exactly divisible by 400. That means that the year 2000 was a leap year but that the year 2100 will not be a leap year, for those of us still around then.
