Postage rate increases went into effect in July, with the first-class one-ounce stamp now costing $.60, up $.02 from the August 2021 rate. The ability to send a letter anywhere in the United States within a few days for only sixty cents remains an excellent bargain. Dallas Printing does a large volume of both stamped mail and pre-processed indicia mail at discounted postage rates. Indicia mail has the advantage of lower postage rates, while stamped mail seems more personal and less “mass mailing”, resulting in higher open rates (nearly 100%) and typically better response. Stamped mail can be especially effective on non-profit fundraising mailings.
Supply chain issues continue for many paper and envelope products. Availability of many common papers (including copy paper and standard gloss text and cover) and envelopes is still spotty, with no apparent improvement so far this year. We’ve been able to work through the stock shortages with minimal negative impact through advance planning, inventory management, and judicious substitutions with very similar products as needed.
A recent printing industry survey showed that paper prices have risen approximately 45% (!!!) compared to pre-pandemic levels. That level of cost increase is in the realm of what we have experienced at Dallas Printing. Other printing cost inputs such as labor and overhead have also increased, though not nearly as much. We are continuing to operate as efficiently as we can to keep prices as low as possible.
